Troopersで傷痍軍人の倫理の教師が主人公に軍人と民間人(civilian)の義務に違いがあるかと問う。映画では軍人が市民(citizen)になっているが、主人公の答えは同じ。市民は命がけで国の安全を守る責任があるが民間人にはない。なぜだろう。
Citizen（市民）,moral(義務)、body politic(国、政体)、personal responsibility(責任)は翻訳すると社会的実感から遠くなる。公民という科目は中高で習っているはずなのだが。英文はブログで。http://nomurakn.blogspot.jp/
きっと英語にうるさい日本人は、moralは道徳と訳すべきだいい、公民教育に熱心な人はcitizenは市民ではなく公民というべきだといい、学者はbody politicは政体と翻訳すべきだというかもしれない。するとよけいに社会的な実感から遠くなるように思われる。
これらの用語の日本語および英語における歴史的背景や社会的な意味合いがわからないと、正確に翻訳することができないのだろう。とてもその域には達していないので、もとの英文を引用しておく。
